New Energy Initiatives and Reports

The Institute for Energy Research (IRI) released a report on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 detailing the additional effects of immediately opening federal lands to oil and gas leasing. This report was in response to an earlier report released last year by the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) that only analyzed the lease revenues that might be expected from a proposal to open federal lands and waters where currently they are either statutorily or as a matter of Administration policy prohibited from  oil and gas leasing.

The IRI report may be found here.

Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski, ranking member of the Senate Energy & Natural Resources Committee, announced her energy blueprint during a speech at the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners Winter Meeting on Monday, February 4, 2013.

Virginia Senator Mark Warner and the Alliance to Save Energy also released a plan to double energy productivity by 2030. The recommendations include ideas for sparking investment, modernizing regulations to allow more rapid adoption of energy efficient technology upgrades, and the need for greater public engagement.
